Introduction

Concept

World-Class Research-Based School Fostering

Background

Change in Education & Research According to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Advancement of Technology
  • The fourth industrial revolution* is a result of advanced science technology and socio-economic changes that requires creative, innovative talents based on interdisciplinary education and convergence and integration research.

This next-generation industrial revolution that appeared in the 21st century is based on digital revolution and is closely related to ubiquitous and mobile internet, cheaper, smaller, more powerful sensors, and AI and machine learning. (World Economic Forum, ’16)

Continued Increase of Demand for Qualified Researchers
  • Despite the decrease in academic/working population due to low birth rate and high aging society* and slowing down of economic growth, the demand for quality research development manpower is still rising.

Total Birth Rate, Number of Newborns: (’00) 1.48, 640,000 → (’10) 1.23, 470,000 → (’18) 0.98, 330,000

The lack of supply for science and engineering doctors will be over 12,000 in between 2013 and 2022. (National Assembly Research Service, ’15.3)

Role Expansion of Research-Based School as a Creator of Intelligence
  • Research-based school, internationally, is in charge not only of academic interests but of community, national, and global issues

Through collaboration,Seattle, University of Washington, New York City, and Cornell University contributed to the regional competency and innovation such as smart city project and business start-up activation.

Graduate School Education & Research Support by Quality of Research
  • The research support and graduate school manpower development business of other competent countries focus on the quality of the representative research accomplishment and thesis when evaluating research performance.

Excellence Strategy, Germany evaluates based on the quality of 25 major theses per business, and asks to submit up to 10 these per participating professor in order to evaluate the research performance.
